His latest ideas on the new Vista from Microsoft was written up with a video. However it seems many did not understand the parody and the sarcasism of the article etc.But Vista is still a copycat affair. Read on for more.

What is a RSS feed?

If ain't broke don'needt fix it. But sometimes you have to do that to
(1) catch up with new technological advanced
(2) Learn new ways to enhance your websites, browswer, applications, computer etc
(3) need to update to make your life, computer and other things better

Well I think I finally know about RSS feeds and what they can do. I already have websites, blogs and more.

So check out what is a feed.
Dr.Eric
http://dreric1macnewsmacsightings.blogspot.com/
**

(from AOL area)

"What is a feed?
A "feed" is a summary of Web content that is updated on a regular basis. It allows users to keep informed of a Web site's latest changes. The feed format that eBay uses is Really Simple Syndication (RSS) 2.0.

Feeds help eBay make content more accessible, and they allow you to easily see new content. A summary or "headline" view lets you quickly scan recent content changes, and headlines are linked to their appropriate content. What does the RSS feed on this page contain?

The search results RSS feed contains items based on the search criteria that you’ve entered. This feed will be updated based on how often you have set your reader to retrieve data from eBay and any restrictions the reader may have on how often it retrieves information. Usually, you will get new listing information every 30 minutes.

Since many readers cache information and poll at most every 30 minutes, listings that appear on the RSS feed will not have an end time less than 15 minutes from the moment the feed was retrieved. Therefore, if your reader requests the feed now, the first item will end in at least 15 minutes.
Initially this feature will not support all search parameters available through Advanced Search pages. In the next few days we will include on this page a full list of unsupported filters. How to subscribe to this feed

Before you subscribe to this feed, you'll need an RSS reader or aggregator to view content in RSS. Several free and commercial RSS readers are available on the Internet. Once you have an RSS reader, right-click on an RSS link, copy the URL, and paste it into your reader to display the content in RSS.
Search Results, eBay Stores, eBay Discussion Boards, eBay General Announcement Board and System Announcement Board are places where content is changing on a regular basis. To make it easy for you to see recent changes and updates on your search criteria, Stores, and boards, consider using eBay's RSS feeds."

Wall Street Journal Best & Worst Ads of 2006

5 Ads make the list of the best and 5 make the worst

Best 5:
Career Builder Monkeys is one of the ones but so is
Apple!!

Client: who elsee Apple Computer, Inc.
Agency: Omnicom Group's TBWA/ Chiat/ Day

Mac man is played by Justin Long (star of movie Accepted). The ads are said to be clever, funny and "handy " (he can communicate with all sortss of different people, and knows how tocome with pictures and music.
The PC people are modeled after Daily Show comedian John Hodgman (who is decidely less hip, and is always amazed humbled or befuddled by Mac's never ending range of abilities.

Feedback: Other commercials poke fun at other products that it goes up against. However " Apple's knife cuts deep, but by the time rivals feel it, they have already started to bleed."

Ouch. If only PC users really listened to the ads or do they?

Worst includeds the Outback Steakhouse ad in which the guys bites a head off a shrimp and says "Good Night, Sir."

(duhhhhhhh?????)

Internet Explorer 7 Proves Buggy Already: It's safer, but security holes still affect the new browser.

MSN still can't get it right but those who love Microsoft don't care. Or do they?

Try firefox, opera or another browser and you will be happier.

Plus, a worm in iPods.

" Can anybody Catch Itunes?"

Wall Street Journal 11/27/2006
The Technology report R1
article " Can anybody Catch Itunes?"

Concerning legal digital music,Microsoft, Yahoo and others are not going after Apple and iTunes but the part of the market that has not signed up yet (for a variety of reasons).
No2 Emusic wants to get people who still shop for CDs by offering CD like packages. The other companies are trying to go indirectly to thwart Apple. iTunes has 72% of the online song market (makes Apple #4retailer of music in any form) while eMusic has 10%. Apple owns 75% ofthe mp3 player market. At 3% tie for 4th in digital musicmarket.
Realnetworks , Sandisk Corp and Best Busy are 1,2,3.

Download sales have been lackluster. Other companies can only download with software that is non Apple which has its own (copy protection scheme) software which Apple does not let others use.

eMusic sells unprotected music which can be played on any mp3 player including the iPod. The lack of protection means that eMusic cannot carry major music label artists which Apple garnered with groundbreaking deal with its Music store.

Other companies on the hunt are yahoo music, Napster, Realnetworks Rhapsody and Microsoft Zune ( mixed reviews lately with it being bulky, and can't use television shows and movies like iTunes. Microsoft and Zune are trying to capitalize on the music sharing capability which it says that is the personal element that has been lost with Apple.

(We shall see. But I don't agree with that statement. What makes music personal is that people can make their iPod their own mp3 player and a flexible one at that . The imix and being able to let people "see " their mixes, people can see and buy what others people like. I do not like the subscribe by monthly addition that some of these companies use (don't continue to pay you lose the music). Now if Apple had a monthly prescription that would be great. But I don't buy that many CDs in a year or a month. What does everyone else think?

How to bring schools into 21st century

This article just came out. What I like it about
includes

(1) Knowing more about the world.
(2) Thinking outside the box
(3) Becoming smarter about new sources of information
(4) Developing good people skills

I have taught K-college and presently am a gifted education consultant/ teacher at a High school near Kansas City. These 4 ideas are for all students.

With (1), students should use the internet all resources including TV to learn about the world. On 12/11/2006 there was an interested Discover program on killer jellyfish. I saw these lethal Box jellyfish when I was in the Aquarium in Capetown , South Africa. I knew about these creature but I learned more. They "sleep"and swim faster then humans!I learned more when I looked up further information on Wikipedia (valuable). Our Enigma projects , they have to separater Fact from Opinion. And you need to write notes about what your learning on the internet, not copy it.

With (2) I have students try acivities that stress what I call CFC (Creative, Futuristic and Critical ) Thinking. I expect them to try the activities the best they can and try , try , try. Since many of the activities are nearly all impossible to get, they get credit for trying too.

Number (3) relates to the use of technology and information. I always use Google but Ask has some good information. It is important to use keywords to trim you list of words to activitate and have them in order or importance to find better article, websites and more. And I show the students how to use The utility Trackstar which can find good webistes which have already been selected by teachers. Cuts down on their "fishing for websites " and wasting time.

And (4) I am always learning too. I wish some of my students would say "please " and " thank you " more often. Look up emotional intelligence articles for more insights into more about this too.

Well the article is below. Enjoy.

How to bring schools into 21st century
POSTED: 9:38 a.m. EST, December 10, 2006

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/12/10/time.cover.tm/index.html

Editor's note: The following is a summary of this week's Time magazine cover story.
(Time.com) -- -- American schools aren't exactly frozen in time, but considering the pace of change in other areas of life, our public schools tend to feel like throwbacks.
Kids spend much of the day as their great-grandparents once did: sitting in rows, listening to teachers lecture, scribbling notes by hand, reading from textbooks that are out of date by the time they are printed.

Microsoft Office makes encouraging strides ("but who cares? is my comment)

Microsoft Office makes encouraging strides

Pros
"New ribbon user vinterfaces makes it easier to find command. Live preview options let you change bfore you apply them.
Cons
Pricey. Learnign curve for existing Office customers (high?). Potential confusion over new file formats. No compelling reason to upgrade for folks comfortable with status quo."

While not a splash, Zune makes positive debut

By Jefferson Graham, USA TODAY Thu Nov 30, 8:16 AM ET

The Zune, Microsoft's much-hyped answer to Apple's trend-setting iPod, had a good first four days of sales, says a leading research firm. But consumer electronics analysts don't think Apple has anything to worry about.
Amazon's daily chart of best sellers Ipod dominated with tZune 17th

Sales clerks still don't know much about he Zune
Consumer Tech critics know the restricted wirless music sharing capabiltiy.

"unless you have a grudge against Apple , it is hard to see why anyone would buy a Zune over and iPod

MacIntosh on the Seas

MacIntosh on the Seas

In June 1973, I journeyed with 2000 other people from all over the globe , for my 2nd total eclipse of the sun. I did this on the new way on a ship (the 2nd of its kind) aboard the British Canberra. Not only did I witness a spectacular 5 min 30 seconds eclipse, I saw the spectacular Hawaiian like scenery of the Canary Islands and the interesting city of Dakar, Africa (western most part of Africa). met interesting people, ate interesting foods and much more.

Part of the result of that I started to build and present slide presentations. In 2001, 28 years later I was able to finally realize my dream of putting together a video of the total eclipse, from the time the shadow started coming in and we could see from 40 miles away until the end with all the sights and sounds of what is called " nature's greatest spectacle." And technology, my videocameras and my Macintosh hardware and software helped make this come about.

Since then I have been a travel consultant/host for three eclipse travel tours (1 on sea and 2 on land) and they all combined travel, seeing new sights, eating new foods, meeting new people and learning new and exciting things. Now since 2000, a new breed of ocean going travelers have gone to sea.

Hackers of the Caribbeans (to sample themed cruises, we join geeks at sea; skipping sunset for Mac times)
by Steve Stecklow

The article talks about people trying the "Geek cruises" to learn more about macintosh, programming and more. This session has Macintosh activites, lectures and presentation and workshops and draws doctors, dermetaologists, programmers and other to learn from Apple pros. Andy Ihnatko, a mac specialist, lectured for 2.5 hours on "Why Mac Rules."
While there are other theme cruises (art, comedy, Military, poker, mystery) this one is computers. There are other people on board this ship, the MS Veendam, who don't take the classes but 100 are here for what is called MacManiaV . They pay $1650 to improve their computer skills, listen and learn from Apple notables and improve their technology skills.
When not doing computer stuff, they are snorkeling, visiting the sights like Mayan ruins and more
