Converting resumes and other files to pdf etc.

\
It is that time of the year when resumes are being created, printed and readied for jobs and employment. Many employers today want/need your resume, references, applications, letters of support, transcripts and other papers, your resume(s) uploaded to the place of work or institution, usually in either word or pdf format. You could go to duplication business or place but why not do it on your computer. I found several ways.
(1) You can use a scanner to convert your files.
(2) To find some free converter, use google and type in free pdf converters. I found this one.
http://www.freepdfconvert.com/It worked well but if you have big files, the pdf file has to be loaded to the desktop through the downloading of zip file. For some reason also, one has to wait 30 minutes to do it again. So I looked for another source in Appleworks and OSX (Leopard or before) .
(3) For OSX, find your document in Word, text, format. Click on it and then under FILE> PRINT check the PDF format (see above to the left). Save the file to the desktop or your hard drive etc.
(4) Another way is to first open your document in Textedit by clicking and then hit click Open Apple-O. The document will expand in Textedit for format and a window opens up.
(5) Appleworks - open your document, then instead of saving, click on print. Click on pdf format and save where you want in pdf format.
Either way then upload your files. One of these ways might save you some time and money. Happy job hunting and finding!

Mac on 60 Minutes Dennis Quaid

I had heard that the movie star Dennis Quaid remarried and they had twins but something happened to them. On 8/24/2008, the movie star with his wife at his side, told the agony that there twin boys were given a 1000 times dose of blood thinner which put them in extreme peril. In this piece on 60 minutes, they went on to find that overdosing has occurred in similar cases in other hospitals but little was done. Two similar bottles of the blood thinner were similar in size. Each also had blue titling strips around them one darker blue then the other but still easy to mistake.
Quaid and his wife were trying to lead a campaign to have better labeling on bottles so more careless mistakes would not kill, injure or cause harm to patients. While they were showing what they were doing to help promote this campaign, the TV showed Quaid looking at his Mac laptop (not sure what kind ?).
The drug industry did not seem to think much of it and while the hospitals were listening to concerns it does not seem that they will be doing much either.
Be careful out there

Apple, Cisco, Ready for an iPhone Truce?

Interesting how a "name of a product"makes all the fuss. Why didn't Apple secure the copyright to the name a long time ago?

Apple, Cisco, Ready for an iPhone Truce?

By MAY WONG
AP
SAN JOSE, California (Feb. 1) - Apple Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. are apparently suspending their court battle over the iPhone to return to the negotiations table.

Although Cisco's lawsuit against Apple remains pending, the two companies have agreed to extend the time Apple has to respond so the parties can discuss trademark rights and interoperability, the companies said late Wednesday. The aim is to reach an agreement on the matter, they said.

The best paid CEOs Steve Jobs #2http://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif

The best paid CEOs Jobs is #2

Study: Heads of PeopleSoft, Apple Computer and MBNA are the best-compensated corporate leaders.

Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computer, was No. 2 behind Conway, according to the Equilar analysis. Jobs got a compensation package worth $76.8 million comprised of a $1 salary, a $2.3 million bonus and $74.5 million in restricted stock. Jobs received no options to buy shares of Apple, which fell 34 percent last year.
Apple, which did not make significant job cuts last year, declined to comment on Jobs' pay package.

But unlike some of the others, his salary is $1, no significant pay cuts have occurred
