Blackberry and now their virtual keyboard

I don't really know why Blackberry owners are such fanatics about these devices. One of the parts of these devices as well as the Palm and others, has been the keyboard which for me is almost useless and for me makes not tense. I don't text. My finders are too big. How do you access the numbers or etc ? Even Sprint did not know how to access the virtual keyboard on my Palm. Go figure. There are other reasons possibly. But the makers saw how popular the iPhone is getting and it is threatening their turf. So one of the things is for a virtual keyboard. It will be interesting to know if iPhone still surges, takes away even more business sales and threatens Blackberries.

Why is Apple doing this? Wallmart will sell iPhone

I am not really sure why Apple doing this. Apple still can sell the iPhone in the Apple stores and is doing well with it so far. Maybe its a "saturate the market thing" so more iPhones will sold now and go up against in more places against the Blackberry, Sprint phone and the new Google phone.

Is Apple Opening closing doors when it should be opening them?

I found this article interesting. It relates to application development which Apple usually tries to keep stuff close with it to make sure the apps are "up to snuff."

More tunes for iTunes and us?

Rumor has it that Apple may be finding ways to have an online store or means to get as many tunes you want for a price unlike the $1 per tune one, I and others have been used to. From Financial Times, Apple, Inc is negotiating with record labels to give iPhone and iPod customers "free" access to the whole iTunes library ifthey pay extra for the devices. Details to be laid if they deal can go through are how much Apple will pay the record labels for access.

iPhone: New email feature, games, developer software

Apple's Jobs Adds Business E-Mail Features to IPhone (Update5)
Bloomberg - USA
Apple's development kit was originally due to be released last month. The iPhone is built on the same operating system software used by the Mac. ...

New business options with email features and more will target business users. Research In Motion the Canadian company uses a security system which in effect has the whole system go down if something in the chain goes wrong (this happened last week).
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=a1bInJNxFFA8&refer=news

Meanwhile Apple stock went down to $3.56, or 2.9 percent, to $120.93 . The shares have fallen 39 percent this year because of a possibility of an economic slump in the U.S. may have consumers curb spending and purchasing..

Games, new developer software are coming to the beautiful iPhone.

Times are changing. Sometimes this newsletter does not go through Yahoo (don't know what 's up) or I run out of time. In the meantime, all of this newsletter and more (cartoons, graphics, visuals that can't go on this newsletter) will appear at my blog as well. So you can see it on the newsletter and on the web. That way you can also do RSS feeds and I can do more for the newsletter and the related blog.
I don't have an iPod yet but I am thinking about getting the iPhone for all it can deliver once I can either contact with anyother carrier other then AT&T. I don't mind AT&T as we just go cable and internet with it (finally we could break out of the Comcast high speed stranglehold - which sucked ). I like the DVR capability (even running shows in the past ), recording more then one movie at a time, all the other channels and the on screen menu and more.
I have not upgraded to Leopard yet, I have tried some RSS feeds, have several blogs and websites. Then again I am trying to do my videos and put them on DVD. It seem strange that Apple has completely overhauled their iMovie but I am not surprised as I have had trouble synching to doing my DVD with iDVD so I am hoping when I get the new iMovie and iDVD things will be better. I will have more to say on my blog (try it ) and more in future issues with reviews.

Meanwhile I wonder whether it would be better to shut down this newsletter and just put it up on the blog or post this on the blog too. Any thoughts?

2007: The Year in Review

from Macworld 12/2007 P.132 " 2007: The Year in Review" by7 John Motlz (crazyapplerumors.com)

middle column

" Truly the "IT" device if 2007- if not the decade, century, millenium, and indeed all of time and space - the iPhone finally arrived on June 29. Its arrival was greeted by a chorus of angels , followed by a solar eclipse , an overflight by a flock of doves , and a dire warning from a strange bearded man who kept mumbling something that sounded like " $200 price -cut."

Hilarious!!

Very cleverly done. I have seen several total solar eclipses and am a big mac fan.

MAC DIGITAL/VIDEO

Creating a time-lapse effect
You can create a time-lapse effect when you import prerecorded video from your camcorder, or when you capture live video from your camcorder or iSight camera. This is useful if you want to show the progression of an event (such as a blooming flower) in a fraction of the time it took in real life.
Note: You can't create a time-lapse effect for video you've already imported into an iMovie project, but you can use special effects to speed it up. To learn how to use special effects, see Related Topics below.

To create a time-lapse effect when importing prerecorded video:
1. Turn on your camera, and connect it to your computer. If you need help with this, see Related Topics below.
2. In iMovie HD, press the camera icon (shown above), and choose Time Lapse from the pop-up menu.
3. Select the Capture Frame checkbox and specify the number of frames from which you want iMovie to capture one frame of video.
4. Click OK.
5. Import your video into iMovie as you normally do, using the iMovie capture controls. If you need help with this, see Related Topics below.
To create a time-lapse effect while capturing live video from your camcorder, connect your camcorder to your computer using a FireWire cable, set your camcorder to Camera mode, and remove the tape. In iMovie HD, press the camera icon (shown above), and choose Time Lapse from the pop-up menu. Select the Capture Frame checkbox and specify the number of frames from which you want iMovie to capture one frame of video, then click OK. Click the Import button at the bottom of the iMovie monitor to start recording. Click Import again to stop recording.
To create a time-lapse effect while capturing live video from your iSight camera, press the camera icon (shown above) and choose iSight or Built-in-iSight from the pop-up menu. Press the camera icon again, and then choose Time Lapse from the pop-up menu. Select the Capture Frame checkbox and specify the number of frames from which you want iMovie to capture one frame of video. If you're recording into an iSight-formatted project, choose whether you want to permanently embed date and time text into the video. Click OK. Click the Record With iSight button at the bottom of the iMovie monitor to start recording. Click Record With iSight again to stop recording.

feedback from others so far:

(1 of 1 users found this comment useful)Bobby T (Bobby Thompson) It took me a little time to figure out how to configure a couple things, not everything is intuitive right off the bat... But after figuring out there were additional selections server settings, i was able to get all the files to go where I wanted them...

Otherwise everything seems to work great...

Best of Its Kind - Version: 1.3.6, 8/4/2006 06:26PM PST

(1 of 1 users found this comment useful)mjmorrison As a developer I can say that this is great work. Also, the developer is quick to return email and he really wants to maintain this as a great program.

For podcastsers this is a no-brainer.

Keep up the great work!

Awesome Program - Version: 1.2, 8/20/2005 01:14AM PST

(2 of 2 users found this comment useful)timstree_dotmac Feeder is a full featured program, but simple-enough to use, even for those still learning about RSS feeds. If you don't need a particular feature, you don't have to use it, but it is there for you later on when your needs grow.

Best of all it doesn't take a lot of effort to get a new feed up and running. The validate feature is not something I'd seen in other programs and is reassuring to have especially if you are just beginning.

I recently had a question about something I was unsure about and the developer replied to my question in under two hours! I would happily recommend this program to anyone needing to create RSS feeds.

A middle iphone - laptop device in the works?

Is Apple considering an "in between" iPhone and laptop computers? First I saw this headlin
Apple patent reveals innovative docking station

I took took my aiport problem to the Apple Store

Thanks Jared for your assistance and figuring out what is ailing with my imac and airport.

I went down to the Apple Store on the Country Club Plaza, in Kansas City, MO to find out more about my Internet problem. I wanted to see if the problem was the airport or AT&T (they said previously the problem was airport). I had read some Airport books and fiddled more with the diagnostics on the system preferences It's not. Sometimes it worked sometimes not. Weak signal, no signal, strong sometimes, I could not figure out and rhyme or reason what was wrong. Yeah I could try to call someone but I decided to see if I can find out more at the local Apple Store.

I had made an appointment at the Genius Bar at 3:15 the night before over the Internet. I got there an hour early as I did not know how the roads would be after the snowfall. The roads were fine. I knew I was in luck when a parking space opening up across the street from the Apple Store.

I strolled in an hour earlier put my Imac on the bar and then I wandered around and waited while checking out the laptops but mostly the iPhone which I have not seen close up. I had some questions to answer if I might buy one in the future.

I was able to try out the iPhone and try to get into one of the weather websites that I use for my stormchasing. I flipped over the iPhone and the screen went sideways-cool. But the font was small. I was told by another Mac Genus and he demonstrated visually, that to enlarge the font and screen content you place two fingers together on a point on the screen and then widen your two fingers. The screen then enlarged-very cool. I fiddled with it for a while.

I asked about the price for online plans. Still pricey. I asked if you can have several people on the same plan (my wife and I currently share a plan with Sprint for our phones). He said yes. I would have to inquire with AT&T whether there are less costly plans and I might do that.

I looked at the macpros, ipods and other equipment. The place was absolutely mobbed. One guy was getting help at the Studio bar (used to be the Genius bar) for projects and work (could not figure out what he was working on with his pad). A young women was demonstrating the iPhone to someone else. Kids and adults were playing with the iPhones and iPods and desktop and laptops.

At 3:15 I was called and wondered over to the Genius Bar (now at the head of the room and not at the side) and I met Jared Cash, one of the genius guys. He was very personable and helpful indeed.
And he new his stuff.

He plugged in my Imac and had it running off my airport so the airport was not the problem.
Wewww!! So far so good.
He said it was probably the cable modem of AT&T and the 2WIRE system that the guy put in when he came when things did not work right a few weeks ago.

Jared said it was most likely that the 2Wire AT&T modem was either interfering with the base station next to my wife's Macpro laptop and her airport. My Imac is some 20 feet away up some short stairs so it was not clear why all of a sudden the signal was cutting out or non existent sometimes.

Jared graciously drew me a drawing of the system. Most likely I would have to call AT&T and tell them what's up (it is not the airport and too old like they said as the airport still has some life in it). But it seems that the best way to fiddle with the system is to click on my wife's current airport preferred network and not the 2WIRE network in my preferred network listing. Originally set up with her computer and Comcast when we first got high speed and my Mac troubleshooter Tom had installed for me from my wife's defunct mac laptop.

Jared also said that even a telephone line would mess things up. So I moved the phone further away instead of next to the computer.

So right now the high speed and airport are working synched to the local network name I configured.
I will cross my fingers and see what happens.

If things get wishy washy again I will try fiddling with the 2wire or shutting it off. But so far so good.

Thanks Jared. Appreciate your time and patience!! Happy holidays.

PS It seem to me that the best thing Apple ever did was create iTunes/ Ipod. I think that has fueled things around working the Apple computer and OSX. But the Genius bar idea is a stroke of GENIUS!!!

Happy holidays!

Thanks very much for answering.
Have you found any rhyme or reason why it fades out or just completly goes out while my wife's with her maclaptop is going fine?

NO, I HAVE NO CLUE ... I HAD HEARD THAT SOME AT&T FIELD TECHNICIANS DON'T LIKE 2WIRE BECAUSE THEY NEED TO KEEP REPLACING THEM, BUT IF THAT IS THE ONLY PROBLEM BOTH MACS SHOULD BE AFFECTED

The signal was out all day and I tried. Finally came in synch 15 minutes ago. The signal keeps ebbs and strengthening. I've looked in an airport book for more answers but not much has come. I keep tweaking the airport connection port info. I have an Imac flatpanel.

WELL I'M GLAD YOU ARE AT LEAST FUNCTIONAL ... DID YOU TRY PLUGGING YOUR MAC INTO THE 2WIRE WITH AN ETHERNET CABLE? I USUALLY DO THIS & JUST SHUT OFF THE AIRPORT CARD. IT SAVED A LOT OF FRUSTRATION, BUT DID NOT SETTLE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, SINCE I USUALLY USE MY MACBOOK PRO IN THE LIVING ROOM, I HAVE A CABLE RUNNING FROM A NETGEAR SWITCH (ALSO USED BY APPLE TV) ACROSS THE FLOOR TO MY LAZY BOY ... IT IS A GOOD THING MY WIFE LOVES ME A LOT.

what do you mean "Back-to-My-Mac?"

YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE NEW .MAC SERVICE IN LEOPARD? ...
http://www.apple.com/dotmac/backtomymac.html

What kind of DSL modem ? How will you work that out? Let me know if it works?

A FRIEND WHO IS AN APPLE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED A SPEEDSTREAM 5100 FROM TERAYON COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. HE GAVE IT TO ME, SO I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO PURCHASE. I WILL NEED TO CALL AT&T TO GET THEIR DIRECTION. I'VE BEEN SO BUSY, I'M NOT SURE WHEN I'LL TRY IT.

That is totally weird. As I was typed the signal gave out. I went back and did the diagnostics on the airport and went on and the signal keeps going in and out.
I just had to go back in and do the diagnostic and turn the airport on and off 2 times and then it clicked into the 2wire again.
Could that mean I have a bad airport card? That is what the AT&T person said?

PERHAPS IT IS THE AIRPORT, BUT HAVE YOU TRIED GOING TO A WI-FI HOT SPOT OR A FRIENDS HOUSE WITH WIRELESS CONNECTION. IF THE PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS AT HOME AND IT IS NOT THE 2WIRE, PERHAPS YOU ARE GETTING INTERFERENCE FROM SOME OTHER WIRELESS DIVICE IN YOUR. TRY SHUTTING OFF ANY CORDLESS PHONE. PERHAPS YOU ARE GETTING SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL DEVICE INTERFERENCE. IF YOU HAVE A LOCAL APPLE RETAIL STORE, PERHAPS THEY CAN CHECK THE AIRPORT CARD.

I don't think that is the problem but...
MIGHT BE WORTH THE TIME TO CONFIRM THAT IT IS OK.

Take care. Have a Merry Christmas.

Take off iPhone ads on TV- called jPhone

Happy Hannuak. Well it is Hannukah and I made sweet potato pancakes and they were great.
We have a lot of Mac here. Sue has a new laptop. I have my older Imac flatpanel, Shira has an Imac and Brian (mazol tov now has latop he has finally seen the light) and the kids also have iPods.
I was browsing through this jewish website. Near to the bottom of this page in the website, there is a little short film icon called jPhone. Click on it and you will see a funny well done take off movie on the iPhone ads on TV.
